Nearly 20-25 million years old, Lake Baikal is the oldest existing freshwater lake on Earth as well as the deepest continental body of water, having a maximum depth of 1,700 meters and 445 meters above from sea level. This amazing Lake contains 20% of all fresh running water on our loving planet. The most ancient and beautiful lake Baikal contains an outstanding variety of topical flora and fauna, of anomalous value to evolutionary science. Baikal contains more then 1,085 species of plants and 1,550 species and varieties of animals. A uniquely freshwater species here is the Baikal seal.
